Peanut Butter that Tastes Like Peanuts

Who would have thought? Not the people at Skippy. I've known that organic peanut butter tastes more like peanuts than that imitation peanut butter, that just happens to be cheaper, for a while, but after getting a giant tub of it (I lost the label, but it must be 100+ oz.) at Willy Street Co-op, I have learned the lesson again. Maybe it's because the name brand organic peanut butter still has salt added. Now one wouldn't think that something called peanut butter wouldn't taste like peanuts, but most peanut butter out there doesn't actually, close, but not exactly. That's because most peanut butter has a plethora of other things in it, like high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, and hydrogenated vegetable oils, including cottonseed oil. You know, cotton didn't even used to be a food, and actually, still isn't considered one by the USDA. Well, doesn't it make sense that there are other things in peanut butter? How else are you going to make butter from peanuts? This is what Skippy would have you think. But no, it's simple. Just crush some peanuts, and then it's peanut butter. It tastes better, it's better for you and the environment, and it's not so...fake. Just go to Willy Street Co-op and look in the bulk food isle. You'll find a bin filled with peanuts, and when you turn the crank out comes peanut butter. Its shelf life is still longer than you will need, and if you keep it in the fridge, the oils don't even separate. Wow, what an idea! Peanut butter that tastes like peanuts. No more Skippy for me. Even the organic stuff has salt in it which might increase shelf life, but it doesn't taste as much like peanuts to me.

Fasting

This will be the longest fast yet. The full moon was at 1:10 AM, and I doubt that I will get up at 2:00 tomorrow morning for breakfast. The last time I ate was about 10:00 yesterday night, so a bit more before the start of my fast than usual.

Berimbau, Autumnal Equinox, and the Nature of the Universe

For the first autumnal equinox where I actually realize it and not just think once or twice in the day that it's the first day of fall, today was a pretty crappy day. Most of the source of woe lies in my knee, which I somehow injured last week, and is not seeming much better. Aside from the general aggravation this causes, the inability to ride my bike, and more importantly, play Capoiera has really put me down the past few days, and today was a climax. I was really hoping it would be better for class today, but unfortunately, in some ways it is worse.
After class, the afternoon largely consisted of me being depressed and alone, though it did turn into contemplating the nature of self, and who I or we all are. This was sparked by the completion of download of 'What the bleep do we know?' a documentary about quantum physics and what reality really is. I have actually been thinking on this subject a lot of late, past few days and on and off for the past few months. For myself, it seems an integral piece of the puzzle which is my spirituality slowly developing. I had a thought a couple of weeks ago on my bike, which I won't actually delve to deep into right now, which felt like a moment of clarity for me. I've been trying to find something in the world which could represent or embody this idea of spirits or souls (basically something that could be a being), and everything I came up with either didn't cover what I felt was right, or just seemed fake. Then I thought, wait, I know I am a being, or at least I choose to believe I am, and I also choose to believe I am not the only being, so why look so far away into the world for what I am looking when I have it right here. I am (thank you Descartes), so I need only find things which I believe are like me in order to find where these spirits lie. I think that is a base for this problem which I can live with and believe in, while not making a frame through which I view the world that is absurd and causes me to do dumb things to others.
Well then I felt more depressed for a while, mainly because I was alone and wanted to go to class, but my knee. I did go to the roda at the end though, which helped to cheer me up, along with the friends I have there. The community is a huge part of what I love about Capoeira, and even with a bum knee I can still have that. So then when I got home I decided to play some berimbau on the porch, which was quite awesome, and I'm glad I did so. Music is a great thing, and I think this is the first time I played music in a very very long time. I am not as good at berimbau as I was at trombone, but I am good enough to start to express my feelings into the music, which is something I had forgotten about. Maybe my bum knee is a blessing in a way, and I can use it to help me explore other aspects of Capoeira which I love, but never fully realized how much I do.
And all this on the equinox, a very important day. At least for me.

Fracking

I'm listening to Democracy Now! and the story right now is about hydrolic fracturing, or fracking for short. I can't take this seriously. "Could you tell me what exactly fracking is?" It's just fracked up.

Back by popular demand (aka, Lex bugging me)

Yeah, so I'm not good with this posting thing. It took several friends over a year to get me on Facebook, and then longer to actually post things. While I hear LJ is way better than Facebook, that doesn't mean I am used to posting random things on it.

Anyway, not much going on really, listening to Pandora, which is my new friend. Having not sorted my music on my computer at all, Pandora actually allows me to listen to music without having to search around on my computer for what I want to hear.

Well, for now, that is all, except for: Squeegee.
